Data I/O Corporation was incorporated in the State of Washington in 1969. The Company designs, manufactures and sells programming systems for electronic device manufacturers, specifically targeting high growth areas such as high-volume users of flash memory and microcontrollers. The Company's programmable solutions are used in devices such as smart phones, HDTV, MP3 players, gaming systems and automobile electronics. These solutions, some of which include intellectual property management, secure content management and process control capabilities, enable the Company to address the demanding requirements for the electronic device market, where applications and intellectual property protection are essential to its customer's success. The Company's programming solutions include a range of products, systems, modules and accessories, grouped into two general categories: automated programming systems and manual programming systems. It provides two main categories of automated programming systems: off-line and in-line. The Company's common programming platform, FlashCORE, and its universal job setup tool, Tasklink for Windows, are available in each family of its automated programming systems and FlashPAK. In addition, it provides device support and service on all of its products. Device support is a critical aspect of its business and consists of writing software algorithms for devices and developing socket adapters to hold and connect to the device for programming. The Company is focusing its research and development efforts in its strategic growth markets, namely new programming technology, automated programming systems for the manufacturing environment and software tools for design engineers. It continues to focus on extending the capabilities and support for its FlashCORE architecture, and the RoadRunner, FLX, PS and FlashPAK product lines. Its applications innovation strategy provides complete solutions to target customer's business problems. These solutions have a larger software element, may involve third-party components, and in many cases will be developed or customized to address the specific requirements of individual customers. The Company's customers are heavy users of programmable semiconductor devices and include original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in wireless and consumer electronics and automotive electronics, and their electronic manufacturing service (EMS) contract manufacturers. Data I/O mainly assembles and tests its products at its main facility in Redmond, Washington and it outsource its circuit board manufacturing and fabrication. It has transferred most of its FlashCORE adapter production to China. Its facilities are subject to numerous laws and regulations concerning the discharge of materials or otherwise relating to the environment.
