Delhaize Group SA was founded in Belgium in 1867. It is a food retailing company. Its primary store format consists of food supermarkets. Its store network also includes other store formats such as proximity stores, cash and carry and specialty stores. At December 31, 2013, its store network consisted of 3,534 stores. The Company has operations in nine countries on three continents — North America, Europe and Asia. The Company is engaged in one line of business in the United States, the operation of food supermarkets in the southeastern, mid-Atlantic and northeastern regions of the United States under the banners Food Lion, Hannaford and Bottom Dollar Food. Its stores sell a variety of groceries, produce, meats, dairy products, seafood, frozen food, deli-bakery and non-food items such as health and beauty care products, pet products, prescriptions and other household and personal products.
