Amcon Distributing Co and its subsidiaries are engaged in the wholesale distribution of consumer products in the Central, Rocky Mountain and Southern regions of the United States. It also operates health food retail stores in the Midwest and Florida.

Amcon Distributing Co was incorporated in Delaware in 1986. The Company operates sixteen retail health food stores as Chamberlin's Market & Café and Akin's Natural Foods Market. The Company operates two business segments: wholesale distribution segment and retail health food segment. Its wholesale distribution segment distributes consumer products in the Central, Rocky Mountain, and Southern regions of the United States. Its retail health food segment operates sixteen health food retail stores located throughout the Midwest and Florida. Its products include cigarettes, candy, beverages, foodservice, groceries, health food products, paper products, health and beauty care products, and tobacco products. Its principal competitors are national wholesalers such as McLane Co., Inc. (Temple, Texas) and Core-Mark International (San Francisco, California), as well as regional wholesalers such as Eby-Brown LLP (Chicago, Illinois), Farner-Bocken (Carroll, Iowa), and H.T. Hackney (Knoxville, Tennessee) along with a host of smaller grocery and tobacco wholesalers. The Company is subject to regulation by federal, state and local governmental agencies, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and the U.S. Department of Transportation.
