Amcon Distributing Company was incorporated in Delaware in 1986. The company and its subsidiaries are engaged in the wholesale distribution of consumer products in the Central and Rocky Mountain regions of the United States. In addition, the Company operates thirteen retail health food stores in Florida and the Midwest. The Company operates two business segments: wholesale distribution segment and retail health food segment. It serves approximately 5,000 retail outlets including convenience stores, grocery stores, liquor stores, drug stores, and tobacco shops and distributes approximately 14,000 different consumer products, including cigarettes and tobacco products, candy and other confectionery, beverages, groceries, paper products, health and beauty care products, frozen and chilled products and institutional food service products. The Company operates five distribution centers located in Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. These distribution centers, combined with two cross-dock facilities, contain a total of approximately 487,000 square feet of floor space. It also markets private label lines of tobacco, snuff, water, candy products, batteries, film, and other products. The Company's retail health food stores, which are operated as Chamberlin's Market & Café ('Chamberlin's' or 'CNF') and Akin's Natural Foods Market ('Akin's' or 'ANF'), carry over 30,000 different national and regionally branded and private label products. These products include high-quality natural, organic, and foods consisting of produce, baked goods, frozen foods, nutritional supplements, personal care items, and general merchandise. Its main products include candy, beverages, food service, groceries, health food products, paper products, health and beauty care products, and tobacco. Its main competitors are national wholesalers such as McLane Co., Inc. (Temple, Texas) and Core-Mark International (San Francisco, California), as well as regional wholesalers such as Eby-Brown LLP (Chicago, Illinois) and Farner-Bocken (Carroll, Iowa), along with a host of smaller grocery and tobacco wholesalers. All of the Company's facilities and operations are subject to state and federal environmental regulations.
