Digimarc Corporation founded in 1995. Digimarc Corporation develops solutions, license intellectual property and provides development services to business partners. It enables governments and enterprises to give digital identities to media and objects that computers could sense and recognize and to which they can react. It provides solutions directly and through our licensees. The Company provides media identification and management solutions to commercial entities and government customers and licenses its technology and patent inventions to other solution providers. The Company derives its revenue from a single reporting segment; media management solutions. Revenue is generated in this segment through licensing of intellectual property, subscriptions to various products and services, and the delivery of services pursuant to contracts with various customers. The Company markets its products in the U.S. and in non-U.S. countries through its sales and licensing personnel. The Company's largest government customer is the Central Banks. The Company license mainly to commercial entities that use its technology and patented inventions in the media and entertainment industry. The Company's revenues are generated through commercial and government applications of its technology. It generates a majority of its revenue from service and license fees paid to it under long-term contracts with the Central Banks, Nielsen, IV, Verance Corporation and Civolution. The remainder of its revenues are generated mainly from patent and technology license fees and royalties paid by commercial business partners providing media identification and management solutions to movie studios and music labels, television broadcasters, creative professionals and other customers. The Company's current patent licensees include, IV, AlpVision SA, Civolution, IV, Monic, Nielsen, Signum Technologies, Verance and Verimatrix, Inc. The Company competes with non-digital watermarking technologies for the security or marketing budgets of the producers and distributors of media objects, documents, products and advertising.
