GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

DTE Energy Holding Co is engaged in utility operations. Its segments include electric, gas, and non-utility operations.

DTE Energy Co was incorporated in 1995 in the State of Michigan. The Company is engaged in utility operations. Its segments include electric, gas, and non-utility operations. The Electric segment consists principally of DTE Electric, which is engaged in the generation, purchase, distribution and sale of electricity to approximately 2.1 million residential, commercial and industrial customers in southeastern Michigan. The Gas segment consists principally of DTE Gas, which is engaged in the purchase, storage, transportation, distribution and sale of natural gas to approximately 1.2 million residential, commercial and industrial customers throughout Michigan and the sale of gas storage and transportation capacity. Non-utility segment is involved in natural gas pipelines, gathering and storage; power and industrial projects; and energy marketing and trading operations. Gas Storage and Pipelines consists of natural gas pipelines, gathering and storage businesses. Power and Industrial Projects is comprised of projects that deliver energy and utility-type products and services to industrial, commercial and institutional customers, produce reduced emissions fuel and sell electricity from renewable energy projects. Energy Trading consists of energy marketing and trading operations. Competition in the regulated electric distribution business is from the on-site generation of industrial customers and from distributed generation applications by industrial and commercial customers. Competition in the gas business involves other natural gas transportation providers, as well as providers of alternative fuels and energy sources. Its gas storage and pipelines business expects to continue its steady growth plan by expanding existing assets and developing new assets that are typically supported with long−term customer commitments. It has competition from other pipelines and storage providers. The Company is subject to extensive environmental regulation.

Guru Investment Theses on DTE Energy Co

Mario Gabelli Comments on Deutsche Telekom AG - Nov 23, 2015

Deutsche Telekom AG (NYSE:DTE)(3.2%) (DTE GR – $17.77/ 15.87 – Frankfurt Stock Exchange) is the incumbent German telecom provider, with substantial international holdings in Eastern and Southeastern Europe and the U.S. In Germany, Deutsche Telekom has been aggressively rolling out both fiber-to-the-home technology and its 4G mobile network in order to maintain its quality gap with competitors. This is having the desired impact on operating metrics, with, for example, a doubling of fiber subscriber net additions compared to last year. While in the short term this may be adversely impacting margins, Deutsche Telekom has arrested and reversed market share losses in Germany which is critical to long-term success. In mobile, domestic pricing has broadly stabilized and the market should begin to see the benefits of the in-market consolidation transaction between Telefonica Deutschland and E-Plus. The company’s European businesses have yet to turn the corner in terms of revenue and EBITDA with a number of the markets still under pressure from macro conditions. For much of the past two years, the Deutsche Telekom story has been dominated by the strong performance of T-Mobile US and the implied value of that asset to the parent company. The 2Q organic revenue and EBITDA gains in the U.S., of 13.7% and 22.8% respectively, were well ahead of expectations and served as the source of outperformance for the group as a whole. Beyond the convincing U.S. numbers, speculation continues unabated about possible bids for T-Mobile from any of a variety of parties. Deutsche Telekom’s shares have been amongst the most resilient in the European telecom sector, in part underpinned by a secure current return of 3.4%.
