Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA was established on June 11, 1962. The Company, directly and through its subsidiaries, is involved in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in Brazil. Its companies are responsible for 42,333 MW of the installed capacity of electric power generation in the country, which represents 35% of the total local capacity. There are 40 hydroelectric plants, 123 thermoelectric plants, four wind farms and two thermonuclear plants. The Company is responsible for 61,534 km of transmission lines and 257 substations. Besides it operates and maintains this system in compliance with the performance and quality standards required by the National Agency of Electrical Power (Aneel), Eletrobras has been actively taking part in the transmission expansion through concessions in auctions promoted by Aneel, solely or by means of consortiums. With respect to its distribution to state utilities and industrial companies, it distributes electricity at higher voltage levels (up to 750 kV), while it distributes to residential and certain commercial companies at lower voltage levels (either at 230 kV, 138 kV or 69 kV).
