Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc was incorporated under the laws of the Republic of the Marshall Islands on March 23, 2005. The Company is engaged in the ocean transportation of cargoes, including iron ores, coal, grains, cement and fertilizers. It operates in the Handymax sector of the dry bulk industry, with an emphasis on the Supramax class of vessels. The Supramax dry bulk vessels vary from 50,000 to 60,000 deadweight tons in size. These vessels has the cargo loading and unloading flexibility of on-board cranes, while offering cargo carrying capacities that of Panamax dry bulk vessels and relies on port facilities to load and offload their cargoes. As of December 31, 2013, the Company owned and operated a fleet of 45 oceangoing vessels; 43 Supramax and 2 Handymax, with a combined carrying capacity of 2,451,259 dwt and an average age of approximately 6.6 years. The Company's vessels are employed on time and voyage charters. The Company's customers include international companies such as Lauritzen Bulkers A/S, Norden A/S, Olam International, Clipper Bulk Shipping, Steel Authority of India Ltd, Hyundai Merchant Marine Co Ltd, Jaldhi Overseas pte Ltd., Navig8 Inc., Phaeton international Ltd., Starhigh Asia Pacific Pte Ltd., Bunge Ltd., Trammo Navigation Pte Ltd., MUR Shipping B.V., Lighthouse Navigation Pte Ltd. and Pacific Basin Shipping Ltd. Its operations are subject to a number of laws and regulations in the form of international conventions and treaties, national, state and local laws and national and international regulations in force in the jurisdictions in which its vessels operate or are registered. In addition, the Company is also subject to air emission norms, as well as safety norms set forth by United Nations' International Maritime Organization.
