Employers Holdings, Inc., is a Nevada holding company and is the successor to EIG Mutual Holding Company, which was incorporated in Nevada in 2005. Effective February 5, 2007, the Company completed its initial public offering. It is a specialty provider of workers' compensation insurance to select small businesses in low to medium hazard industries. The Company conducts operations in 31 states and the District of Columbia, with a concentration in California. Workers' compensation provides insurance coverage for the statutorily prescribed benefits that employers are required to provide to their employees who may be injured or suffer illness in the course of employment. The level of benefits varies by state, the nature and severity of the injury or disease, and the wages of the injured worker. The Company markets its workers' compensation insurance products through independent local, regional, and national agents and brokers; through its strategic partnerships and alliances. The Company's primary competitors in California are The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., Travelers Insurance Group Holdings, Inc., Zurich Insurance Group Ltd., and Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies. The Company's insurance subsidiaries are subject to regulation by the states in which its insurance subsidiaries are domiciled or transact business.
