Bottomline Technologies Inc was originally organized as a New Hampshire corporation in 1989 and was re-incorporated as a Delaware corporation in August 1997. The Company provides trusted and easy-to-use set of cloud-based digital banking, fraud prevention, payment, financial document, insurance and healthcare solutions. It offers hosted or Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions, as well as software designed to run on-site at the customer's location. It operates a cloud-based network that facilitates the exchange of electronic payments and invoices between buyers and their suppliers. It offers hosted and on-premise solutions that banks use to provide cash management and treasury capabilities to their business customers, as well as solutions that banks and credit unions use to facilitate customer acquisition and growth. It also offers comprehensive cyber fraud and risk management solutions that are designed to non-invasively monitor and analyze user behavior to flag behavioral and data anomalies and other suspicious activity. Its three operating segments are Payments and Transactional Documents, Hosted Solutions, Digital Banking. Its Payments and Transactional Documents segment is a supplier of software products that provide a range of financial business process management solutions including making and collecting payments, sending and receiving invoices, and generating and storing business documents. Its Hosted Solutions segment provides customers predominately with SaaS technology offerings that facilitate electronic payment, electronic invoicing, and spend management. Its Digital Banking segment provides solutions to banking and financial institution customers. It competes with companies such as ACI, Fiserv and FIS that offers financial services, including electronic banking applications. During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2015, the company added two newly issued patents to its portfolio. Currently, the company hold approximately 26 USA patents as well as nine foreign equivalent patents in Europe, Israel and India. It expects to receive other patents, as it has approximately 25 applications pending before the USA Patent and Trademark Office. Its operating segments provide services or products that may be subject to various federal, state or foreign laws or regulations, particularly in the area of data security and privacy.
