Energy Transfer Partners LP is a Delaware limited partnership. The Company is managed by its general partner, Energy Transfer Partners GP, L.P. (ETP GP), and ETP GP is managed by its general partner, Energy Transfer Partners, L.L.C. (ETP LLC), which is owned by Energy Transfer Equity, L.P., another publicly traded master limited partnership (ETE). The Companys business activities are: Natural gas operations, including: natural gas midstream and intrastate transportation and storage through Southern Union and La Grange Acquisition, L.P., which conducts business under the assumed name of ETC OLP; and interstate natural gas transportation and storage through ET Interstate and Southern Union. ET Interstate is the parent company of Transwestern, ETC FEP, ETC Tiger and CrossCountry. Southern Union is the parent company of Panhandle, which provides transportation and storage services through Panhandle, Trunkline and Sea Robin transmission systems. Refined product and crude oil operations, includes: refined product and crude oil transportation through Sunoco Logistics; and retail marketing of gasoline and middle distillates through Sunoco. Other operations, includes: natural gas compression services through ETC Compression; a limited partner interest in AmeriGas; natural gas distribution operations through Southern Union; and an approximate 30% non-operating interest in a refining joint venture. The Companys midstream segment focuses on the gathering, compression, treating, blending, processing and marketing of natural gas, and its operations are currently concentrated in the Austin Chalk trend of southeast Texas, the Permian Basin of west Texas and New Mexico, the Barnett Shale in north Texas, the Bossier Sands in east Texas, and the Uinta and Piceance Basins in Utah and Colorado. The Companys intrastate transportation and storage business owns and operates approximately 7800 miles of natural gas transportation pipelines and three natural gas storage facilities. The Companys propane operations extend from coast to coast with concentrations in the western, upper midwestern, northeastern and southeastern regions of the United States. The Companys propane business has grown mainly through acquisitions of retail propane operations and, to a lesser extent, through internal growth. The Companys competitors include major integrated oil companies, interstate and intrastate pipelines and companies that gather, compress, treat, process, transport, store and market natural gas. The Companys operations are subject to extensive federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations that require expenditures for remediation at operating facilities and waste disposal sites.
