GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Exa Corp develops, sells and supports simulation software and services to vehicle manufacturers to enhance the performance of their products, reduce product development costs and improve the efficiency of their design and engineering processes.

Exa Corp was incorporated in the state of Delaware on November 21, 1991. The Company completed its initial public offering on July 3, 2012. It develops, sells and supports simulation software and services that vehicle manufacturers use to enhance the performance of their products, reduce product development costs and improve the efficiency of their design and engineering processes. Its solution enables its customers to augment or replace conventional methods of evaluating design alternatives that are expensive and inefficient physical prototypes and test facilities, such as wind tunnels, with accurate digital simulations that are more useful and timely. Its solutions facilitate its clients to gain insights about design performance early in the design cycle that reduce the likelihood of expensive redesigns and late-stage engineering changes. Its product, PowerFLOW, is a software solution for simulating complex fluid flow problems, including aerodynamics, thermal management, and aeroacoustics, or wind noise. PowerFLOW relies upon technology that enables it to predict complex fluid flows with a level of reliability than physical testing. Currently the Company is engaged on the ground transportation market, including manufacturers in the passenger vehicle, highway truck, off-highway vehicle and train markets, as well as their suppliers. Its products and solutions are used over 150 manufacturers including BMW, Ford, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan, Porsche, Renault, Toyota and Volkswagen; truck and off-highway vehicle manufacturers such as Hyundai, Kenworth, Kobelco, MAN, Peterbilt, Scania and Volvo Truck; and suppliers to these manufacturers, such as Cummins, Denso and Magna Steyr. The Company offers its PowerFLOW product as a software-only to be run on the customer's own computer hardware, or provided in the form of software-as-a-service via its hosted PowerFLOW OnDemand offering. The Company sells its products and services through direct sales force, including sales executives and applications engineering teams deployed near its customers in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan Korea and China. It also conducts business in Sweden, India, Brazil, Russia, Canada, Finland, Spain and Australia. Apart from PowerFLOW, the Company's product portfolios include PowerDELTA with PowerCLAY, PowerCASE, PowerTHERM, PowerCOOL, PowerINSIGHT, PowerVIZ, and PowerACOUSTICS. The Company owns 11 patents issued in the United States.
