Fuelcell Energy, Inc., was founded in Connecticut in 1969 and became a publicly traded company in 1992. The Company reincorporated in Delaware in 1999 and began selling commercialized fuel cell power plants in 2003. The Company is an integrated fuel cell company. It designs, manufactures, sells, installs, operates and services ultra-clean, highly efficient stationary fuel cell power plants for distributed baseload power generation. Its power plants offers scalable on-site power and utility grid support, helping customers solve their energy, environmental and business challenges. The Company's plants are operating in more than 50 locations worldwide and have generated more than 1.5 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity, which is equivalent to powering more than 135,000 average size U.S. homes for one year. Its installed base and steadily growing backlog exceeds 300 megawatts (MW). The Company's customer base includes electric utility companies, municipalities, universities, government entities and businesses in a variety of commercial and industrial enterprises. The Company services two main markets: ultra-clean power (fuel cells operating on clean natural gas) and renewable power (fuel cells operating on renewable biogas). Its geographic markets are South Korea and the United States and it is pursuing expanding opportunities in Asia, Europe, and Canada. The Company's products are subject to various federal, provincial, state and local laws and regulations relating to, among other things, land use, safe working conditions, handling and disposal of hazardous and potentially hazardous substances and emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere.
