GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Fairchild Semiconductor International Inc. was incorporated in the State of Delaware and established in 1959. The Company is focused on developing, manufacturing and selling power analog, power discrete and certain non-power semiconductor solutions to a wide range of end market customers. The Company's products are used in consumer, communications, and computer, industrial and automotive applications are organized into the following three principal product groups that are reportable segments: Power Analog, Power Discrete and Standard Products. It designs, manufactures and markets high-performance analog and mixed signal integrated circuits for computing, consumer, communications, industrial and automotive applications. The Company offers analog and mixed signal device products in a fast growing number of proprietary part types. Analog products monitor, interpret and control continuously variable functions such as light, color, sound and energy. Interface products generally connect signals from one part of a system to another part of a system. The Company designs, manufactures and markets power discrete semiconductors for computing, communications, industrial and automotive applications. Discrete devices are individual diodes or transistors that perform power switching, power conditioning and signal amplification functions in electronic circuits. The Company also designs, develops, manufactures and markets high-performance standard logic devices utilizing three wafer fabrication processes: CMOS, BiCMOS and bipolar. The Company has dedicated direct sales organizations operating in Europe, the Americas, the Asia/Pacific region, Japan and Korea that serve its major original equipment manufacturer and electronic design and manufacturing services customers. The Company's product groups are organized by the end markets which include: Mobile, Computing, Consumer and Communication (MCCC), Power Conversion, Industrial and Automotive (PCIA). Our third reportable segment is Standard Products (SDT), which contains a wide array of mature, standard products. The Company also design, manufacture, and market power semiconductor solutions for computing, communications, mobile, consumer and industrial applications. Power semiconductor solutions include, power discrete MOSFETs, analog integrated circuits, and fully integrated multi-chip and monolithic power solutions. The Company produces advanced power MOSFETs under SupreMOS, SuperFET, PowerTrench, UniFET and QFET brands. MOSFETs enable various end applications to achieve their design needs and efficiency goals. The Company's operations are subject to environmental laws and regulations.
