FBL Financial Group Inc was incorporated in Iowa in October 1993. The Company sells individual life insurance and annuity products principally under the consumer brand name Farm Bureau Financial Services. This brand identity is represented by the distribution channel of Company's subsidiary Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company (Farm Bureau Life). In addition, in the state of Colorado, the Company offers life and annuity products through Greenfields Life Insurance Company (Greenfields Life). The Company manages all aspects of two Farm Bureau affiliated property-casualty insurance companies (Farm Bureau Property & Casualty Insurance Company and Western Agricultural Insurance Company) which operate predominately in eight states in the Midwest and West. The Company operates through four segments: Annuity, Life Insurance product segments, Corporate and Other Segments. The Annuity Segment sells a variety of traditional annuity products through exclusive agency force. It primarily consists of fixed rate and indexed annuities and supplementary contracts (some of which involve life contingencies). The Life Insurance sells a variety of traditional and universal life insurance products through its exclusive agency force. It consists of whole life, term life and universal life policies. The Corporate and Other segment includes: advisory services for the management of investments and other companies; marketing and distribution services for the sale of mutual funds and insurance products; leasing services with affiliates; closed blocks of variable annuity, variable life and accident and health products; interest expense and investments and related investment income. The Company's distribution channels are currently conducted in 15 states. The Company is subject to the same federal laws as other corporations, including, but not limited to pension regulation, discrimination, financial services regulation, securities regulation and federal taxation.
