FairPoint Communications Inc provides communications services to business, wholesale and residential customers. It service offerings including; Data and Internet Services; Voice Services; Access; and Other Services.

FairPoint Communications Inc was incorporated in Delaware in 1991. The Company is a provider of communications services to business, wholesale and residential customers within its service territories. The Company offers its customers a suite of data services such as Ethernet, high capacity data transport and other IP-based services over its Next Generation Network (as defined herein) in addition to Internet access, high-speed data ("HSD") and local and long distance voice services. Its service territory spans 17 states where its incumbent communications providerserving rural communities and small urban markets. The Company owns and operates a next-generation fiber network with more than 16,000 miles of fiber optic cable in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, giving capacity to support more HSD services and extend its fiber reach into more communities across the region. The IP/Multiple Protocol Label Switched ("IP/MPLS") network architecture of Next Generation Network allows providing Ethernet, transport and other IP-based services with the highest level of reliability at a lower cost of service. This fiber network also supplies critical infrastructure for wireless carriers serving the region as their bandwidth needs increase, driven by mobile data from smartphones, tablets and other wireless devices. It also has fiber connectivity to more than 1,000 cellular telecommunications towers in service footprint. The Company offers services to meet the communications and technology needs of customers, including bundling of services designed to simplify customers purchasing and management processes. Its offering includes; Data and Internet Service offer an extensive array of high capacity data services including: optical, Ethernet, IP services, Ethernet virtual circuit technology for cellular backhaul and private line special access services; also offers broadband Internet access via digital subscriber line ("DSL") technology, fiber-to-the-home technology, dedicated T-1 connections, Internet dial-up, high speed cable modem and wireless broadband; offers carrier Ethernet services throughout market to business and wholesale customers. Carrier Ethernet services provide high capacity internet access as well as private corporate networking solutions at high speeds to business customers. Its Voice Services includes; Local Calling Services that enables the local customer to originate and receive an unlimited number of calls within a defined "exchange" area. Local calling services include basic local lines and local private lines. It provides local calling services to residential and business customers, generally for a fixed monthly charge and service charges for special calling features; Long Distance Services offers dedicated long distance services within its service areas on its network and through resale agreements with national interexchange carriers; and High-Cost Loop Funding that receive Connect America Fund Phase I frozen support.
