GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Fuel Tech, Inc. was originally incorporated in 1987 under the laws of the Netherlands Antilles as Fuel-Tech N.V., Fuel Tech became domesticated in the United States on September 30, 2006, and continues as a Delaware corporation. The Company provides engineering solutions for the optimization of combustion systems in utility and industrial applications. The Company has two technology segments that provide engineering solutions to meet the pollution control, efficiency improvement and operational optimization needs of energy-related facilities worldwide. The segments are: Air Pollution Control Technologies and FUEL CHEM Technologies. The Air Pollution Control technology segment focuses mainly on nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission reductions in flue gas from boilers, incinerators, furnaces and other stationary combustion sources and includes the NOxOUT, NOxOUT CASCADE, GSG, NOxOUT ULTRA and NOxOUT-SCR processes. The FUEL CHEM technology segment uses chemical processes, including TIFI Targeted In-Furnace Injection technology, to control slagging, fouling and corrosion, as well as the formation of sulfur trioxide, ammonium bisulfate, particulate matter (PM2.5), carbon dioxide, NOx and unburned carbon in fly ash in furnaces and boilers. The FUEL CHEM program improves the efficiency, reliability and environmental status of plants operating in the electric utility, industrial, pulp and paper, waste-to-energy, university and district heating markets and offers numerous operational, financial and environmental benefits to owners of boilers, furnaces and other combustion units. The key market dynamic for both technology segments is the continued use of fossil fuels, especially coal, as the main fuel source for global electricity production. Fuel Tech distributes its products through its direct sales force, licensees and agents.
