Business Description

1st United Bancorp is a financial holding company headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida. Its main subsidiary, 1st United, is a Florida-chartered commercial bank, which operates 19 banking centers in Florida, from the Central Florida through the Treasure Coast to South Florida, including Brevard, Broward, Indian River, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties. The Company offers a variety of traditional loan and deposit products, which it tailors to their specific needs to its customers, mainly professionals, individuals and small- and medium-sized businesses. It provides for the financing needs of the community it serves by offering a variety of loans including: commercial loans, which would include collateralized loans for working capital (including inventory and receivables), business expansion (including real estate acquisitions and improvements), and purchase of equipment and machinery; small business loans, including SBA lending; Exim Bank insured or guaranteed loans; residential real estate loans to enable borrowers to purchase, refinance, construct upon or improve real property, and home equity loans; and consumer loans, including collateralized and uncollateralized loans for financing automobiles, boats, home improvements, and personal investments. Through the Business Banking division and SBA division, the Company's commercial real estate loan portfolio includes loans secured by office buildings, warehouses, retail stores and other properties. The Company originates consumer loans bearing both fixed and prime-based variable interest rates. It originate loans directly through the banking centers, business bankers and residential lenders. Through its Business Banking division, the Company focuses on the commercial loan market comprised of small- to medium-sized businesses with combined borrowing needs up to $10.0 million. These businesses include professional associations, medical services, retail trade, construction, transportation, wholesale trade, manufacturing, and tourism-related service industries. Through its Credit and Risk Management division, the Company uses its loan origination underwriting procedures to assess both the borrower's ability to make main and interest payments and the value of the collateral securing the loan. The Company follows a lending policy that permits prudent risks to assist consumers and businesses in its market area. The Company has no subprime loans. It sells loan participations to other banks. Commercial banking in Florida, including its market, is highly competitive. The Company's competitors in the market are Bank of America, SunTrust Bank, Wells Fargo, BB&T, PNC, Citigroup, and Regions Financial, and these institutions capture the majority of the deposits. The Company is registered with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System as a financial holding company under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and is registered with the Federal Reserve System as a bank holding comp
