Five Star Quality Care, Inc. was incorporated in Delaware in April 2000 and reincorporated in Maryland on September 17, 2001. The Company operates senior living communities, including independent living communities, assisted living communities and skilled nursing facilities, or SNFs. Its business is segmented into two namely- senior living community and corporate and others. In the senior living community segment, the Company operates for its own account or manages for the account of SNH independent living communities, assisted living communities and SNFs that are subject to centralized oversight and provides housing and services to elderly residents. Corporate and others comprises of leasing and operation of rehabilitation hospitals. The Company derives revenues from the services offered to residents at senior living communities and patients of rehabilitation hospitals.
