Shares of Generac Holdings, Inc. (GNRC), a manufacturer of stand-by generators, fell in the second quarter after the company reported first quarter earnings below Street expectations. The company cited difficult winter weather as a reason sales missed expectations and reiterated full year guidance, despite the quarterly miss. Weather created strong demand for Generac generators, but delayed timely installations. We continue to like Generac, based on its dominant market share in an underpenetrated market. In addition, we believe management will be successful in growing the company into a diversified, global back-up power generation business. (Rebecca Ellin)

Baron Funds Comments on Generac Holdings Inc. - Aug 05, 2013

Generac Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:GNRC) manufactures standby and portable generators for the residential, commercial, and industrial markets.The company performed well in the second quarter, as it announced a recapitalization and, concurrently, completed the refinancing of its debt and paid shareholders a $5 per share special dividend. Generac's strong sales, margins, and cash flow enabled this return of capital to shareholders for the second year in a row. (Rebecca Ellin)

Generac Holdings Inc is a Delaware corporation a was founded in 2006. The Company is a designer and manufacturer of power generation equipment and other engine powered products serving the residential, light commercial, industrial and construction markets. Its products include residential, commercial and industrial standby generators, as well as portable and mobile generators used in a variety of applications. Other engine powered products that it designs and manufactures include light towers which provide temporary lighting for various end markets and a product line of power washers for residential and commercial use. It designs, manufactures, sources and modifies engines, alternators, transfer switches and other components necessary for its products, which are fueled by natural gas, liquid propane, gasoline, diesel and Bi-Fuel. Its products are available primarily across the U.S & Canada, also in the Latin America, Europe, Middle East, Africa & Asia/Pacific regions. Products are sold into these under the Generac, Magnum, Ottomotores & Tower Light br& names. It also sells direct to certain national & regional account customers that are the end users of its products. It classifies its products into three classes based on similar range of power output geared for varying end customer uses: Residential power products, Commercial & Industrial power products; & Other products. Its residential automatic standby generators range in output from 6kW to 60kW, with manufacturer's suggested retail prices. These products operate on natural gas, liquid propane or diesel & are permanently installed with an automatic transfer switch, which it also manufactures. Air-cooled engine residential standby generators range in outputs from 6kW to 20kW, are available in steel & aluminum enclosures & serve as an emergency backup for small to medium-sized homes. Liquid-cooled engine generators serve as emergency backup for larger homes & small businesses & range in output from 22kW to 60kW. Liquid-cooled brands include the Guardian Series & the premium Quietsource Series, which have a quiet, low-speed engine & a standard aluminum enclosure. It offers a full line of commercial & industrial generators fueled by diesel, natural gas, liquid propane & Bi-Fuel, ranging from 22kW up to 3,250kW. Its light-commercial standby generators include a full range of affordable systems from 22kW to 150kW & related transfer switches, providing three-phase power sufficient for most small & mid-sized businesses including grocery stores, convenience stores, restaurants, gas stations, pharmacies, retail banks & small health care facilities. It also manufactures a broad line of standard & configured standby generators & related transfer switches for industrial applications.
