Gold Star Resources Ltd., was established under the Canada Business Corporations Act on May 15, 1992. The Company is a Canadian federally-incorporated gold mining and exploration company producing gold in Ghana, West Africa. It also conducts gold exploration in other countries in West Africa and in South Amercia. The Company through its subsidiary Golden Star (Bogoso/Prestea) Ltd (GSBPL) owns and operates the Bogoso/Prestea gold mining and processing operation located near the town of Bogoso, Ghana. Through its subsidiary Golden Star (Wassa) Ltd the Company also owns and operates the Wassa gold mine, located approximately 35 kilometers east of Bogoso/Prestea. Through GSBPL it owns the Prestea Underground, which is located on the Prestea property and consists of a currently inactive gold mine and associated support facilities. It also holds interests in several gold exploration projects in Ghana and elsewhere in West Africa, including Niger and Côte d'Ivoire, and in South America it holds and manages exploration properties in Brazil. All of the Company's gold production is shipped to a South African gold refinery which arranges for the sale of its gold. Its gold is sold in the form of dore bars that averages approximately 90% gold by weight with the remaining portion being silver and other metals. The Company competes with other mining companies in the acquisition, exploration financing and development of new mineral properties. It also competes with other mining companies for skilled mining engineers, mine and processing plant operators and mechanics, mining equipment, geologists, geophysicists and other experienced technical personnel.
