Golden Star Resources Ltd was established under the Canada Business Corporations Act on May 15, 1992. It is a gold mining and exploration company, producing gold in Ghana, West Africa. The Company also conducts gold exploration in West Africa and in South America. Through its subsidiary, Golden Star (Wassa) Limited, it owns and operates the Wassa open-pit gold mine, the Father Brown open-pit gold mine and a carbon-in-leach processing plant, located approximately 35 kilometers from the town of Bogoso, Ghana and through its subsidiary Golden Star (Bogoso/Prestea) Limited, it owns and operates the Bogoso gold mining and processing operation located near the town of Bogoso, Ghana. The Company also has a 90% interest in the Prestea Underground mine in Ghana. It holds interests in several gold exploration projects in Ghana and other parts of West Africa, and in South America it holds and manages exploration properties in Brazil. It competes with other mining companies in the acquisition, exploration, financing and development of new mineral properties.
