GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the companyย’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
ย•ย•3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rankย•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Business Description

Home Bancorp, Inc. is a Louisiana corporation that became the holding Company for Home Bank in October 2008. The Bank is mainly engaged in attracting deposits from the general public and using those funds to invest in loans and securities. Its main sources of funds are customer deposits, repayments of loans, repayments of investments and funds borrowed from outside sources such as the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) of Dallas. These funds are primarily used for the origination of loans, including one-to-four-family first mortgage loans, home equity loans and lines, commercial real estate loans, construction and land loans, multi-family residential loans, commercial and industrial loans and consumer loans. The Bank derives its income mainly from interest earned on loans and investment securities and, to a lesser extent, from fees received in connection with the origination of loans, service charges on deposit accounts and for other services. The Bank's main expenses are interest expense on deposits and borrowings and general operating expenses. The Bank has four primary market areas across south Louisiana: Greater Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Greater New Orleans and the Northshore (of Lake Ponchartrain). The Company faces competition from other financial institutions, including savings and loan associations, savings banks, finance companies, credit unions and other providers of financial services, such as money market mutual funds, brokerage firms, consumer finance companies and insurance companies. Home Bank is subject to federal regulation and oversight by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency ("OCC"). The Bank is also subject to regulation and examination by the FDIC, which insures the deposits of the Bank to the maximum extent permitted by law, and requirements established by the Federal Reserve Board ("FRB").
