GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Hi-Crush Partners LP, together with its subsidiaries is a Delaware limited partnership formed on May 8, 2012. On August 16, 2012 the Company completed its initial public offering of 12,937,500 common units. The Company is a pure play, low-cost, domestic producer and supplier of premium monocrystalline sand, a specialized mineral that is used as a proppant to enhance the recovery rates of hydrocarbons from oil and natural gas wells. The Company supplies Northern White frac sands, a resource existing in Wisconsin and in limited areas of the upper Midwest region of the United States, both on long-term contract and on spot price basis. The Company also provides transload services including terminal storage and railcar storage and handling. The Company's frac sand is sold to smaller pressure pumping services companies and also sold freight on board at the mine site under long-term, take-or-pay contracts that requires the customers to pay a specified price for a specified volume of frac sand each month. The Company's production facilities are designed to accommodate unit train logistics, enabling preferred delivery to U.S. shale basins. The Company owns and operates the Wyeville facility, which is located in Monroe County, Wisconsin and, as of December 31, 2013, contained 62.6 million tons of proven recoverable reserves of frac sand meeting API specifications. As of December 31, 2013, the Company operated 12 destination rail-based terminal locations throughout the Marcellus and Utica shale basins. The Company's current contracted customer base includes subsidiaries of four of North America's providers of pressure pumping services. Though the frac sand that the Company sells are produced from its Wyeville facility, the Company purchases certain amount of frac sand from third parties to use in its own distribution network. As of December 31, 2013 the Company operated 12 destination rail-based terminal locations throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York. The terminals include rail-to-truck and, at Bradford, Minerva, Sheffield, Smithfield and Wellsboro locations, rail-to-storage capabilities. The Company's competitors include Badger Mining Corporation, Emerge Energy Services LP, Fairmount Minerals, Ltd., Preferred Proppants LLC, Unimin Corporation, U.S. Silica Holdings, Inc., among others.
