Business Description

Hurco Companies, Inc. was incorporated in Indiana. The Company is an industrial technology company that designs, manufactures and sells computerized machine tools, consisting mainly of vertical machining centers (mills) and turning centers (lathes), to companies in the metal working industry through a worldwide sales, service and distribution network. Its proprietary computer control systems and software products are sold primarily as integral components of its computerized machine tool products. The Company pioneered the application of microprocessor technology and conversational programming software for application on computer controls for machine tools and, since its founding, has been involved in the introduction of interactive computer control systems that automate manufacturing processes and improve productivity in the metal parts manufacturing industry. The Company concentrated on designing 'user-friendly' computer control systems that can be operated by both skilled and unskilled machine tool operators, and yet are capable of instructing a machine to perform complex tasks. The combination of microprocessor technology and patented interactive, conversational programming software in its computer control systems enables operators on the production floor to quickly and easily create a program for machining or forming a particular part from a blueprint or computer-aided design and immediately begin production of that part. The Company's core products consist of general purpose computerized machine tools for the metal cutting industry. These are, principally, vertical machining centers (mills) and turning centers (lathes), with which its proprietary software and computer control systems are fully integrated. The Company also produces computer control systems and related software for press brake applications that are sold as retrofit units for installation on existing or new press brake machines. Additionally, the Company produces and distributes software options, control upgrades, hardware accessories, and replacement parts for its machine tool product lines, and it also provides operator training and support services to its customers. The Company competes with many other machine tool producers in the United States and foreign countries. Major worldwide competitors include Deckel Maho Gildemeister Group, Mori Seiki Co., Ltd., Mazak, Haas Automation, Inc., Hardinge Inc., Doosan, Okuma Machinery Works Ltd., Milltronics, and MAG Industrial Automation Systems.
