Imax Corp is an entertainment technology company, specializing in motion picture technologies and large-format motion picture presentations.

Imax Corp, a Canadian corporation, was incorporated in 1967. The Company is an entertainment technology company, specializing in digital and film-based motion picture technologies. The Company's principal business are the design and manufacture of premium theater systems and the sale, lease or contribution of those systems to customers under theater system arrangements; and the Digital Re-Mastering of films into the IMAX format and the exhibition of those films in the IMAX theater network. The Company's customers who purchase, lease or otherwise acquire the IMAX theater systems are theater exhibitors that operate commercial theaters (particularly multiplexes), museums, science centers, or destination entertainment sites. IMAX theater systems combine: IMAX DMR (Digital Re-Mastering) movie conversion technology, which results in higher image and sound fidelity than conventional cinema experiences; high-resolution projectors with specialized equipment and automated theater control systems, which result in more contrast and brightness than conventional theater systems; sound system components, which result in more expansive sound imagery and pinpointed origination of sound to any specific spot in an IMAX theater; large screens and proprietary theater geometry, which result in a substantially larger field of view so that the screen extends to the edge of a viewer's peripheral vision and creates more realistic images; and specialized theater acoustics, which results in a four-fold reduction in background noise. The IMAX systems segment designs, manufactures, sells or leases IMAX theater projection system equipment. The theater system maintenance segment maintains IMAX theater projection system equipment in the IMAX theater network. The film production and IMAX DMR segment produces films and performs film re-mastering services. The film distribution segment distributes films for which the Company has distribution rights. The film post-production segment provides film post-production and film print services. The other segment includes certain IMAX theaters that the Company owns and operates, camera rentals and other miscellaneous items. Its trademarks include IMAX, IMAX Dome, IMAX 3D, IMAX 3D Dome, Experience It In IMAX, The IMAX Experience, An IMAX Experience, An IMAX 3D Experience, IMAX DMR, DMR, IMAX nXos, IMAX think big, think big and IMAX Is Believing.
