Imation Corp was formed in 1996. The Company is a data storage and data security company. Its products and solutions help organizations and individuals store, manage and protect their digital content. Its storage and security portfolio includes Nexsan high-density, archive and solid-state optimized unified hybrid storage solutions; IronKey mobile security solutions that address the needs of professionals for secure data transport and mobile workspaces; and consumer storage solutions, audio products and accessories sold under the Imation, Memorex and TDK Life on Record brands. It reaches customers in more than 100 countries through its distribution network. Its four product categories are: Consumer Storage Media, which includes optical products, USB flash drives, flash cards and external hard disk drives. Audio and Accessories, which include headphones and speakers sold under the TDK Life on Record brand. Storage and Security Solutions, storage systems portfolio ranges from high volume, dense storage products to new unified hybrid storage solutions. This includes Nexsan E-Series disk arrays with industry storage density, reliability and power management targeting the block-based storage market; the NST line of hybrid storage combining solid state technology with spinning disk to offer high performance and capacity and the Assureon secure archive systems for data offload, compliance and secure cloud deployments. Commercial Storage Media, includes Imation RDX removable hard disk drives, which are high-capacity, rugged and removable 2.5-inch hard disk drive cartridges with 320 gigabyte to 1.5 terabyte capacities. During 2013, Company was awarded 21 United States patents and at the end of the year held over 263 patents in the United States. Its products are sold to businesses and individual consumers. Its competitors include: Fuji, Sony, Maxell, HP, SanDisk, Lexar, Kingston, among others. Its operations are subject to a wide range of federal, state and local environmental laws.
