GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Intel Corporation is a semiconductor chip maker. It develops integrated digital technology products like integrated circuits, for industries such as computing and communications.

Intel Corp was incorporated in California in 1968 and reincorporated in Delaware in 1989. The Company designs and manufactures integrated digital technology platforms. A platform consists of a microprocessor and chipset, and may be enhanced by additional hardware, software, and services. Its platforms are used in computing applications, such as notebooks, desktops, servers, tablets, smartphones, automobile infotainment systems, automated factory systems and medical devices. It also develops and sells software and services engaged in security and technology integration. Its segments include Client Computing Group, Data Center Group, Internet of Things Group and Software and services operating segments. During the first quarter of 2015, it combined the PC Client Group and Mobile and Communications Group to create the Client Computing Group (CCG). The Company's Client Computing Group segment includes platforms designed for notebooks (including Ultrabook devices), 2 in 1 systems, desktops (including all-in-ones and high-end enthusiast PCs), tablets, phones, wireless and wired connectivity products, and mobile communication components. The Data Center Group includes platforms designed for the enterprise, cloud, communications infrastructure, and technical computing segments. The Internet of Things Group includes platforms designed for Internet of Things market segments, including retail, transportation, industrial, and buildings and home use, along with a broad range of other market segments and the Software and services operating segments includes software products designed to deliver solutions that secure computers, mobile devices, and networks, and software products and services that promote Intel architecture as the platform of choice for software development. The Company sells these platforms to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), original design manufacturers (ODMs) and industrial and communications equipment manufacturers in the computing and communications industries. It competes against other companies that make and sell platforms, other silicon components and software to businesses that build and sell computing and communications devices to end users. Its competitors also include companies that sell goods and services to businesses that utilize them for their internal and/or customer-facing processes. In addition, it faces competition from OEMs, ODMs and other industrial and communications equipment manufacturers in the computing and communications industries.
