GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Business Description

Industry: Banks » Savings & Cooperative Banks
Compare: » details
IF Bancorp, Inc. was incorporated in the State of Maryland. It operates as a savings and loan holding company. The Company's business activities are limited to oversight of its investment in Iroquois Federal Savings & Loan Association (Association). The Association is primarily engaged in providing a full range of banking and mortgage services to individual and corporate customers within a 100-mile radius of its locations in Watseka, Danville, Clifton and Hoopeston, Illinois and Osage Beach, Missouri. The principal activity of the Association's wholly-owned subsidiary, L.C.I. Service Corporation (L.C.I.), is the sale of property and casualty insurance. Its results of operations depend primarily on its net interest income. Net interest income is the difference between the interest income it earns on its interest-earning assets, consisting primarily of loans, investment securities and other interest-earning assets, and the interest paid on its interest-bearing liabilities, consisting primarily of savings and transaction accounts, certificates of deposit, and Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago advances. The Company's results of operations also are affected by its provision for loan losses, noninterest income and noninterest expense. Noninterest income consists primarily of customer service fees, brokerage commission income, insurance commission income, net realized gains on loan sales, mortgage banking income, and income on bank-owned life insurance. Noninterest expense consists primarily of compensation and benefits, occupancy and equipment, data processing, professional fees, marketing, office supplies, federal deposit insurance premiums, and foreclosed assets. Approximately 78.8% of its loan portfolio consists of longer-term, one-to-four family residential real estate loans. However, in recent years, it has increased its focus on the origination of commercial real estate loans, multi-family real estate loans and commercial business loans, which generally provide higher returns than one-to-four family residential mortgage loans, have shorter durations and are often originated with adjustable rates of interest.
