GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Image Sensing Systems Inc develops and markets video and radar image processing products for use in traffic applications such as intersection control, highway, bridge and tunnel traffic management and traffic data collection.

Image Sensing Systems, Inc., a Minnesota corporation was incorporated in December 1984. The Company develops and markets video and radar image processing products for use in traffic applications such as intersection control, highway, bridge and tunnel traffic management and traffic data collection. It is a provider of software-based computer enabled detection, or CED, products and solutions for the intelligent transportation systems, or ITS, industry. The company's family of products, which it markets as Autoscope and RTMS, provides end users with the tools needed to optimize traffic flow, enhance driver safety, regulate air quality, and address emerging security/surveillance concerns. Its technology analyzes signals from sophisticated sensors and transmits the information to management systems and controllers or directly to users. CED is a process in which software rather than humans examines outputs from various types of sophisticated sensors to determine what is happening in a field of view. The market for CED is increasingly favoring converged solutions that include ITS, security/surveillance and environmental management. The company markets its Autoscope products in North America, the Caribbean and Latin America through an exclusive agreement with Econolite Control Products, Inc. The Company markets its Autoscope products outside of North America, the Caribbean and Latin America and its RTMS products through a combination of distribution and direct sales channels, including its wholly-owned subsidiaries in Hong Kong, Poland and the United Kingdom. Its end users mainly include governmental agencies and municipalities. Among the companies that provide direct competition to the Autoscope system worldwide are Traficon N.V., Signal Group Inc. (Semex), Iteris, Inc. and Citilog S.A. Among the companies that provide direct competition to RTMS worldwide are Wavetronix, LLC and Xtralis, LLC. Other potential competitors of which it is aware include Siemens AG, Cognex Corp., Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (Panasonic), Sumitomo Corporation, Omron Electronics LLC and 3M Company. The Company is subject to various legal and regulatory requirements and risks in the U.S. and other countries in which it has facilities or sells its products involving compliance with antitrust, environmental, anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws and regulations, including the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the U.K. Anti-Bribery Act.
