Itron Inc was incorporated in the state of Washington in 1977. The Company is a technology company and supplier of a broad range of standard, advanced, and smart meters and meter communication systems, including networks and communication modules, software, and services. The communications network platform supports robust and standards-based internet protocol, power-line-carrier (PLC), and cellular network protocols according to customers' needs around the world. The software provides mobile and networked meter reading, customer care, billing, distribution design and analysis, forecasting, and load research. The wide range of services includes delivery solutions and managed services on-site or through private cloud solutions. The Company offers solutions that enable electric and gas utilities to build smart grids to manage assets, secure revenue, lower operational costs, improve customer service, and enable demand response. Its solutions include standard meters and next-generation advanced and smart metering products, systems, and services, which ultimately empower and benefit consumers. The Company operates under the Itron brand worldwide and manage and report under three operating segments, Electricity, Gas, and Water. Its sales, marketing, and delivery functions are managed under the three business lines - Electricity, Gas, and Water. The Company's smart metering solutions also have substantially more features and functions than its advanced metering systems and technology. Smart meters are able to send and receive detailed data, collect and store interval data, and interface with other devices, such as in-home displays, smart thermostats and appliances, home area networks, advanced control systems, and more. It is facing increasing competition. The Company faces competitive pressures from a variety of companies in each of the markets it serves. It is subject to various governmental regulations in all of the jurisdictions in which it conducts business.
