GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

ITT Corp is a diversified manufacturer of engineered critical components and customized technology solutions for the energy, transportation and industrial markets.

ITT Corp was incorporated as ITT Industries, Inc. on September 5, 1995 in the State of Indiana. On July 1, 2006, ITT Industries, Inc. changed its name to ITT Corporation. The Company is a diversified manufacturer of engineered critical components and customized technology solutions for the energy, transportation and industrial markets. It manufactures components that are integral to the operation of systems and manufacturing processes in its key markets. Its product and service offerings are organized in four segments including Industrial Process, Motion Technologies, Interconnect Solutions, and Control Technologies. Industrial Process manufactures engineered fluid process equipment serving a diversified mix of customers in infrastructure industries such as oil & gas, mining, power generation, chemical and other process markets and is a provider of plant optimization and efficiency solutions and aftermarket services and parts. Motion Technologies manufactures brake components and specialized sealing solutions, shock absorbers and damping technologies for the automotive, truck, trailer and public bus and rail transportation markets. Interconnect Solutions manufactures and designs engineered harsh environment connector solutions that make it possible to transfer signal and power between electronic devices which services customers for the aerospace and defense, industrial and transportation, oil and gas, and medical markets. Control Technologies manufactures specialized equipment, including actuation, valves, switches, vibration isolation, custom-energy absorption, and regulators for the aerospace and defense, and industrial markets. All of its businesses require various OEM products, manufactured components and raw materials, the availability and prices of which may fluctuate. It utilizes two methods of fulfilling demand for products: build-to-order and engineer-to-order. Engineer-to-order consists of assembling a customized system for a customer's individual order specifications. The Company is subject to various laws, ordinances, regulations and other requirements of government authorities in the U.S. and in foreign countries.
