Business Description

JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd is a China-based manufacturer of high-performance solar cells. It is focused on solar cell design and manufacturing, a stage in the solar power industry value chain. JA Solar designs, manufactures and markets high-performance solar cells, which are made from specially processed silicon wafers. The company's solar cells are assembled and integrated into solar modules and systems that convert sunlight into electricity through a process known as the photovoltaic effect. Solar cells are the key components of solar modules. In 2008, it sold solar cells with a total power output of approximately 271 MW. The company also provides cell processing services to some of its customers who supply it with their own wafers and it process these wafers into solar cells that are sold back to them. In 2008, the company produced approximately 33 MW of solar cells under this arrangement. Solar modules and systems that incorporate its products are distributed globally, including to end-customers in China, Germany, Spain, South Korea and the United States. In the global market, the Company's competitors include photovoltaic divisions of conglomerates, such as Sharp Corporation and Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd., specialized cell and module manufacturers such as Motech Industries, Inc. and Q-Cells AG, as well as integrated manufacturers of photovoltaic products such as SolarWorld AG.
