Kadant Inc., was incorporated in Delaware in November 1991.The Company is a supplier of equipment used in the papermaking and paper recycling industries and also a manufacturer of granules made from papermaking byproducts. Its continuing operations are comprised of two operating segment: Papermaking Systems and Wood Processing Systems, and a separate product line, fiber-based products. Through Papermaking Systems segment, it develop, manufacture, and market equipment and products for the papermaking, paper recycling, and process industries. Through Wood Processing Systems segment, it design, manufacture, and market stranders and related equipment used in the production of OSB, an engineered wood panel product used primarily in home construction, and sell debarking and wood chipping equipment used in the forest products and the pulp and paper industries. Through Fiber-based Products business, the Company manufactures and sells granules derived from pulp fiber for use as carriers for agricultural, home lawn and garden, and professional lawn, turf and ornamental applications, as well as for oil and grease absorption. The raw materials used in its Papermaking Systems segment are steel, stainless steel, ductile iron, brass, and bronze, which have generally been available through a number of suppliers. It competes mainly on the basis of quality, price, service, technical expertise, and product performance and innovation. The Company operates in compliance with federal, state, and local environmental protection regulations.
