Kemet Corp is a Delaware corporation that was formed in 1990. The Company is a manufacturer of capacitors. Capacitors are electronic components that store, filter, and regulate electrical energy and current flow. As an essential passive component used in circuit boards, capacitors are typically used for coupling, decoupling, filtering, oscillating and wave shaping and are used in communication systems, data processing equipment, personal computers, cellular phones, automotive electronic systems, defense and aerospace systems, consumer electronics, power management systems and many other electronic devices and systems. The Company manufactures capacitors in many different sizes and configurations using a variety of raw materials, its product offerings include tantalum, multilayer ceramic, solid and electrolytic aluminum and film capacitors. Its product line consists of over 250,000 distinct part configurations distinguished by various attributes, such as dielectric (or insulating) material, configuration, encapsulation, capacitance (at various tolerances), voltage, performance characteristics and packaging. Most of its customers have multiple capacitance requirements, often within each of their products. The principal raw materials used in the manufacture of its products are tantalum powder, palladium, aluminum and silver. The Company operates 23 production facilities in Europe, North America and Asia. Its customer base includes electronics original equipment manufacturers, electronics manufacturing services providers and distributors. The Company's competitors include AVX Corporation, Matsushita Electric Industrial Company, Ltd. (Panasonic), Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd., Samsung, Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd., TDK-EPC Corporation, WIMA GmbH & Co., KG and Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. The Company is subject to various North American, European, and Asian federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations relating to the protection of the environment, including those governing the handling and management of certain chemicals and materials used and generated in manufacturing electronic components.
