GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Top Ranked Articles about Korea Electric Power Corp

These Two Korean Stocks Are Trading At Half Of Their BV And Increasing EPS
While investing, I like to look for companies with low price-to-book (P/B) ratios. Of the portfolios tracked by GuruFocus, the “Top 25 Historical Low P/B Ratio Companies” portfolio has performed the best, and is outperforming the S&P 500 by 24.02 percent since its inception in 2010. The book value of the company is the value of its assets minus its liabilities, essentially what is left if the company is liquidated. Buying a stock with a P/B ratio below 1 means that you are buying the company below its liquidation value. Of course it is not that simple, people are not likely to buy every company with a low P/B ratio just to liquidate it and keep the difference. There are costs involved with the process, and it is likely that thousands of lives would be devastated due to job losses. The value of the assets could also be in question. They could be overstated and inventories would likely have to be written down. A liquidation sale typically involves items at a deeply discounted price. Also if a company has a low P/B ratio, it might be reflecting the expectations of a decreasing book value. Read more...
