Kroger Co was founded in 1883 and incorporated in 1902. The Company operates retail food and drug stores, multi-department stores, jewelry stores, and convenience stores throughout the United States. It also manufactures and processes some of the food for sale in its supermarkets. In addition to the supermarkets, as of February 1, 2014, the Company operated through subsidiaries 786 convenience stores and 320 fine jewelry stores. All 144 of its fine jewelry stores located in malls are operated in leased locations. The Company operates retail food and drug stores, multi-department stores, jewelry stores, and convenience stores throughout the United States. As of February 1, 2014, the Company operated 38 manufacturing plants. These plants consisted of 18 dairies, nine deli or bakery plants, five grocery product plants, two beverage plants, two meat plants and two cheese plants. operating 2,640 supermarket and multi-department stores under two dozen banners including Kroger, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, Fry's, Harris Teeter, Jay C, King Soopers, QFC, Ralphs and Smith's. Of these stores, 1,240 have fuel centers.
