Business Description

Lee Enterprises, Incorporated was founded in 1890, incorporated in 1950. The Company is a provider of local news and information, and a major platform for advertising, in the markets it serves, which are located primarily in the Midwest, Mountain West and West regions of the United States. With the exception of St. Louis, MO, the Company's 52 markets, across 23 states, are principally midsize or small. Through its print and digital platforms, the Company reaches an overwhelming majority of adults in its markets. Its platforms include 52 daily and 39 Sunday newspapers; Websites in all of its markets that complement its newspapers; Mobile sites in all of its markets; Smart-phone applications in all markets; Tablet applications in operation and in development; and Nearly 300 weekly newspapers and classified and niche publications. The Company's digital activities include websites supporting each of its daily newspapers and certain of its other publications. Certain of its website content is also available through output to mobile devices, including telephones and tablet devices. In addition, it also supports a number of discrete mobile applications, such as for high school, college and professional sports. Digital activities of the newspapers are reported and managed as a part of its publishing operations. The basic raw material of newspapers, and classified and specialty publications, is newsprint. The Company purchases newsprint from U.S. and Canadian producers.
