Business Description

Alliant Energy Corporation was incorporated in Wisconsin in 1981. The Company is operating as an investor-owned public utility holding company under various regulatory constraints. The primary first tier subsidiaries of Alliant Energy are: Interstate Power and Light Company or IPL, Wisconsin Power and Light Company or WPL, Alliant Energy Resources, Inc. or Resources and Alliant Energy Corporate Services, Inc. or Corporate Services. IPL was incorporated in 1925 in Iowa as Iowa Railway and Light Corporation. It is a public utility engaged principally in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electric energy; and the purchase, distribution, transportation and sale of natural gas in selective markets in Iowa and Minnesota, as well as the utility operations of Illinois properties that Alliant Energy is divesting. WPL was incorporated in 1917 in Wisconsin as Eastern Wisconsin Electric Company. WPL is a public utility engaged principally in the generation, distribution and sale of electric energy; and the purchase, distribution, transportation and sale of natural gas in selective markets. WPL has one utility subsidiary, South Beloit Water, Gas and Electric Company. Resources was incorporated in 1988 in Wisconsin. The Company's non-regulated investments are organized under Resources. Corporate Services was incorporated in 1997 in Iowa. Corporate Services provides administrative services to the Company and its subsidiaries. The Company has met customer demand of electricity and expects to continue meeting future demand through internally generated electric supply, purchased power contracts utilizing existing firm transmission rights, and additional power purchases from existing generating units located within and outside of its service territory. Alliant Energy, IPL and WPL are subject to regulation by various federal, state, international and local agencies.
