Lam Research Corp is a Delaware corporation that was incorporated in 1980. The Company is a supplier of wafer fabrication equipment and services to the semiconductor industry. It designs, manufactures, markets, and service semiconductor processing systems that are used in the fabrication of integrated circuits ("ICs"). The Company's products are designed to help its customers to build smaller, faster, and more power-efficient devices that are used in a variety of electronic products, including cell phones, tablets, computers, storage devices, and networking equipment. The Company's customer base includes semiconductor memory, foundry, and integrated device manufacturers that make products such as DRAM, NAND memory, and logic devices. It offers products that are used in several areas of the semiconductor manufacturing process flow, including thin film deposition, plasma etch, and wafer cleaning. The Company operates in seven geographic regions: United States, Europe, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China and Southeast Asia. Its competitors in the etch market are Tokyo Electron, Ltd. and Applied Materials, Inc. In the single-wafer wet clean market, its competitors are Dainippon Screen Manufacturing Co. Ltd., Semes, and Tokyo Electron, Ltd. In the tungsten CVD, PECVD, HDP-CVD, ECD and PVD markets, the competitor is Applied Materials, Inc. In the PECVD market, it also competes against ASM International and Wonik IPS. The Company is subject to a variety of governmental regulations related to the management of hazardous materials that we use in our business operations.
