Learning Tree International, Inc. was founded in 1974. The Company is a vendor-independent provider to business and government organizations for the training and education of their managers and information technology professionals. The Company's reportable segments are: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Sweden and Japan. The Company and its subsidiaries develop, market and deliver a broad proprietary library of instructor-led classroom courses. The Company also offers approximately 75% of its course titles to individuals located worldwide through Learning Tree AnyWare, its patent-pending live online learning interface that allows individuals at any location to attend a live instructor-led Learning Tree class via the Internet. The Company faces intense competition from both established entities and new entries in the market. The Company's competitors include vendor-dependent and include the IT hardware and software vendors themselves. The Company's MagnaLearn Instructional Enhancement System is covered by patents in the United States and a number of foreign countries. The Company has applied for patent protection related to its recently introduced Learning Tree AnyWare live online learning platform. The Company provides educational programs to the public so it has to comply with many laws and regulations of Federal, state and international governments; therefore, it is subject to tax audits by state, federal and foreign jurisdictions.
