Middlefield Banc Corp was incorporated in 1988 under the Ohio General Corporation Law. It is a bank holding company of The Middlefield Banking Company, Emerald Bank and EMORECO Inc. The Middlefield Banking Company was chartered under Ohio law in 1901. It offers banking services such as checking, savings, and negotiable order of withdrawal accounts, money market accounts, time certificates of deposit, commercial loans, real estate loans, and various types of consumer loans, safe deposit facilities, and travelers' checks. It also offers online banking and bill payment services to individuals and online cash management services to business customers. Its loan products include operational and working capital loans, loans to finance capital purchases, term business loans, residential construction loans, selected guaranteed or subsidized loan programs for small businesses, professional loans, residential mortgage and commercial mortgage loans, and consumer installment loans to purchase automobiles, boats, and for home improvement and other personal expenditures. The Middlefield Banking Company's market area in northeastern Ohio consists principally of Geauga, Portage, Trumbull, and Ashtabula Counties. Emerald Bank operates as a separate commercial bank subsidiary of the Company, offering essentially the same range of products and services in central Ohio as The Middlefield Banking Company. EMORECO Inc. was organized in 2009 as an Ohio corporation and maintains, manages, and ultimately disposes of nonperforming loans and other real estate owned acquired by subsidiary banks as the result of borrower default on real-estate-secured loans.
