Mobile TeleSystems OJSC was created on March 1, 2000, through the merger of MTS CJSC and RTC CJSC, a wholly-owned subsidiary. The Company has completed its initial public offering on July 6, 2000. Its legal name is Mobile TeleSystems OJSC and it was incorporated under the laws of the Russian Federation. It is a telecommunications provider in Russia and the CIS, providing mobile and fixed line voice and data telecommunications services, including transmission, broadband, pay-TV and various value-added services, as well as selling equipment and accessories. It is a provider of mobile cellular communications services in Russia, Ukraine, Armenia and Turkmenistan. Services offered include: Network Access, Automatic Roaming, Value-Added Services, GPRS and Internet Access, 3G Technology, LTE Technology and Other Services. The Company currently has a unified system of tariff plans offered to subscribers throughout Russia. Its tariff plans are currently divided into five categories - Prepaid, Maxi, Unlimited, Data and Corporate. The Company enrolls new subscribers in an advance payment program, under which the subscriber prepays a specific amount of money to use its services. The Company competes with a number of fixed line telecommunications operators servicing Moscow, St. Petersburg and other major Russian cities. In the Russian Federation, the federal government regulates telecommunications services.
