Business Description

Micrel, Inc. was incorporated in California in July 1978. The company designs, develops, manufactures and markets a range of high-performance analog power integrated circuits, mixed-signal and digital ICs. These products address a range of end markets including cellular handsets, portable computing, enterprise and home networking, wide area and metropolitan area networks, digital televisions and industrial equipment. The company also manufactures custom analog and mixed-signal circuits and provides wafer foundry services for customers who produce electronic systems for communications, consumer and military applications. The Company also has an extensive power management offering for the networking and communications infrastructure markets including cloud and enterprise servers, network switches and routers, storage area networks and wireless base stations. The Company's high bandwidth communications circuits are used mainly for enterprise networks, storage area networks, access networks and metropolitan area networks. This product portfolio consists of timing, clock management and high speed Physical Media Devices ("PMD") products. The Company's family of Ethernet products targets the digital home, enterprise, industrial and automotive markets. This product portfolio consists of physical layer transceivers ("PHY"), Media Access Controllers ("MAC"), switches, and System-On-Chip ("SoC") devices that support various Ethernet protocols supporting communication transmission speeds from 10 Megabits per second to a Gigabit per second. The Company's analog circuit competitors include Linear Technology Corporation, Maxim Integrated Products, Inc., and Texas Instruments Incorporated in one or more of its product areas. Other competitors include Freescale Semiconductor, Inc., Intersil Corporation, Fairchild Semiconductor International, Inc., Skyworks Solutions, Inc., Semtech Corporation and ON Semiconductor Corporation. Its competitors for products targeted at the high bandwidth communications market are ON Semiconductor, Analog Devices, Inc., Maxim Integrated Products, Inc., Vitesse Semiconductor Corp., Integrated Device Technology, Inc. and Mindspeed Technologies, Inc.
