Mercadolibre Inc was a Delaware corporation incorporated on October 15, 1999. The Company together with its subsidiaries hosts the online commerce platform in Latin America, which is focused on enabling e-commerce and its related services. Its platforms are designed to provide its users a portfolio of services facilitating e-commerce transactions. The Company's segment reporting is based on geography. Its geographic segments include Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela and other countries (including Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Uruguay and the United States of America. The Company offer its users an eco-system of six related e-commerce services: the MercadoLibre Marketplace, The MercadoLibre Classifieds Service, the MercadoPago payments solution, the MercadoLibre Advertising program, the MercadoShops on-line stores solution and the Mercado Envios shipping service. The MercadoLibre Marketplace, is a fully-automated, topically-arranged and user-friendly online commerce service. This service permits both businesses and individuals to list general merchandising items and conduct their sales and purchases online in either a fixed-price or auction-based format. To complement the MercadoLibre Marketplace, it developed MercadoPago, an integrated online payments solution. MercadoPago is designed to facilitate transactions both on and off the MercadoLibre Marketplace by providing a mechanism that allows its users to securely, easily and promptly send, receive and finance payments online. Through its MercadoLibre Classified Service, its users can offer for sale and generate leads on listings in the motors, real estate and services categories. Through MercadoLibre Advertising, users and advertisers are able to place display and/or text advertisements on its web pages in order to promote their brands and offerings. MercadoLibre Advertising offers advertisers a cost efficient and automated platform that enables them to acquire traffic through advertisements placed on the Company's platform. Through MercadoShops, users can set-up, manage and promote their own on-line webstores. These webstores are hosted by MercadoLibre and offer integration with the marketplace, payments and advertising services the Company offers. Through MercadoEnvios, the Company offers cost efficient integration with existing logistics and shipping carriers to sellers on its platforms. Its registered trademarks include MercadoLibre, MercadoLivre, MercadoPago and MercadoSocios. The Company competes with Mas Oportunidades, Rakuten, NovoaPontocom, Netshoes, Casas Bahia, Wallmart and Falabella, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft.
