MFA Financial Inc is engaged in real estate finance business. It invests, on a leveraged basis, in residential Agency and Non-Agency mortgage-backed security.

MFA Financial Inc was incorporated in Maryland on July 24, 1997. Its a real estate investment trust. The Company through its subsidiaries engaged in the real estate finance business. The Company invests in residential mortgage assets, including Agency MBS, Non-Agency MBS, residential whole loans and CRT securities. Its business objective is to deliver shareholder value through the generation of distributable income and through asset performance linked to residential mortgage credit fundamentals. The Company selectively invests in residential mortgage assets with a focus on credit analysis, projected prepayment rates, interest rate sensitivity and expected return. It competes with financial institutions, such as banks, savings and loan institutions, life insurance companies, institutional investors, including mutual funds and pension funds, hedge funds, other mortgage-REITs as well as the U.S. Federal Reserve as part of its monetary policy activities. The Company's business is subject to regulation by federal and state governmental authorities, self-regulatory organizations and securities exchanges.
