MGE Energy Inc was incorporated in Wisconsin on October 31, 2001. The Company is an investor-owned public utility holding company operating through its subsidiaries. Its business segments include: regulated electric utility operations; regulated gas utility operations; nonregulated energy operations; transmission investment and all others segment. Regulated electric utility business purchases, generates and distributes electricity, and contracts for transmission service. The gas utility business purchases and distributes natural gas and contracts for the transportation of natural gas. The nonregulated energy operations are conducted through the Company's subsidiaries: MGE Power, MGE Power Elm Road, and MGE Power West Campus. The transmission investment segment invests, through MGE Transco, in ATC, a company that provides electric transmission services in Wisconsin. The all others segment includes: corporate, CWDC, MAGAEL, MGE Construct, NGV Fueling Services, and North Mendota. These entities' operations consist of investing in companies and property which relate to the regulated operations, financing the regulated operations, or owning and operating natural gas compression equipment. The Company distributes electricity in a service area covering a 316 square-mile area of Dane County, Wisconsin. The Company is subject to frequently changing local, state, and federal regulations concerning air quality, water quality, land use, threatened and endangered species, hazardous materials handling, and solid waste disposal.
