Business Description

McCormick & Company, Inc was formed in 1915 under Maryland law as the successor to a business established in 1889. The Company manufactures, markets and distributes spices, seasoning mixes, condiments and other flavorful products to the entire food industry-retail outlets, food manufacturers and foodservice businesses. Its major sales, distribution and production facilities are located in North America and Europe. Additional facilities are based in Mexico, Central America, Australia, China, Singapore, Thailand and South Africa. It operates in two business segments, consumer and industrial. The consumer segment sells spices, herbs, extracts, seasoning blends, sauces, marinades, and specialty foods to the consumer food market under different brands worldwide, including McCormick, Lawry's, Club House, Zatarain's, Thai Kitchen, Simply Asia, Ducros, Schwartz, and Kamis. The industrial segment sells seasoning blends, natural spices and herbs, wet flavors, coating systems, and compound flavors to multinational food manufacturers and foodservice customers both directly and indirectly through distributors. Raw materials used in the business are dairy products, pepper, garlic, onion, capsicums (red peppers and paprika), soybean oil and wheat. Its products are sold directly to customers and also through brokers, wholesalers, and distributors. Customers for the industrial segment include food manufacturers and the foodservice industry supplied both directly and indirectly through distributors. The Company is subject to numerous food safety and other laws and regulations relating to the sourcing, manufacture, storage, marketing, advertising, and distribution of food products, including laws and regulations relating to financial reporting requirements, the environment, relations with distributors and retailers, employment, health and safety and trade practices.
