Monmouth Real Estate Investment Corporation is engaged in the ownership and management of industrial buildings subject to long-term net-leases, mainly to investment grade tenants.

Monmouth Real Estate Investment Corporation was established in 1968 as a New Jersey Business Trust (NJBT). It operates as a real estate investment trust. On May 15, 2003, the Company changed its state of incorporation from Delaware to Maryland by merging with and into a Maryland corporation. The Company's business is the ownership of real estate. Its investment focus is to own well-located net leased industrial properties which are leased to investment-grade tenants on long-term leases. In addition, the Company holds a portfolio of REIT securities. The Company invests in both debt and equity securities of other REITs. At September 30, 2013, the Company held investments in seventy-six properties totaling approximately 9,586,000 square feet, consisting of seventy-five industrial properties and one shopping center. The Company competes with other investors in real estate for attractive investment opportunities. These investors include other 'equity' real estate investment trusts, limited partnerships, syndications and private investors, among others.
