Montpelier RE Holdings Ltd was incorporated as an exempted Bermuda limited liability company under the laws of Bermuda on November 14, 2001. The Company, through its subsidiaries in Bermuda, the U.S., the United Kingdom (the U.K.) and Switzerland (collectively Montpelier), provides customized and innovative insurance and reinsurance solutions to the global market. It currently operates through four reportable segments namely Montpelier Bermuda, Montpelier at Lloyd's, Collateralized Reinsurance and MUSIC Run-Off. Montpelier Bermuda segment consists of the collective assets and operations of Montpelier Reinsurance Ltd. and Montpelier Europa AG. Montpelier at Lloyd's segment consists of the collective assets and operations of Syndicate 5151, Montpelier Capital Limited, Montpelier at Lloyd's Limited, Montpelier Underwriting Services Limited, Montpelier Underwriting Inc. and Paladin Underwriting Agency Limited. Collateralized Reinsurance segment consists of the assets and operations of Blue Water Re Ltd., Blue Water Master Fund Ltd., Blue Capital Management Ltd., Blue Capital Insurance Managers Ltd., Blue Capital Advisors Ltd. and Blue Capital Reinsurance Holdings Ltd. and its subsidiaries. MUSIC Run-Off segment consists of insurance business retained, reinsured or otherwise indemnified by accordance with the MUSIC Sale. Its competitors include Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd., Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd., Everest Re Group, Ltd., PartnerRe Ltd., Platinum Underwriters Holdings Ltd., RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. and Validus Holdings, Ltd. Insurance and reinsurance entities are highly regulated in countries, although the degree and type of regulation varies significantly from one jurisdiction to another with reinsurers generally subject to less regulation than primary insurers.
