Marathon Oil Corp was incorporated in 2001. The Company is an independent international energy company engaged in the exploration, production and marketing of liquid hydrocarbons and natural gas, production and marketing of products manufactured from natural gas and oil sands mining with operations in the U.S., Angola, Canada, E.G., Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Libya, Norway and the U.K. The Company's operating segments include: North America E&P, which explores for, produces and markets liquid hydrocarbons and natural gas in North America; International E&P, explores for, produces and markets liquid hydrocarbons and natural gas outside of North America and produces and markets products manufactured from natural gas, such as LNG and methanol, in E.G.; and Oil Sands Mining, which mines, extracts and transports bitumen from oil sands deposits in Alberta, Canada, and upgrades the bitumen to produce and market synthetic crude oil and vacuum gas oil. The Company competes with integrated and independent oil and gas companies, as well as national oil companies for the acquisition of oil and natural gas leases.
