GuruFocus Profitability Rank ranks how profitable a company is and how likely the company’s business will stay that way. It is based on these factors:

1. Operating Margin
2. Trend of the Operating Margin (5-year average). The company with an uptrend profit margin has a higher rank.
••3. Consistency of the profitability
4. Piotroski F-Score
5. Predictability Rank•

The maximum rank is 10. A rank of 7 or higher means a higher profitability and may stay that way. A rank of 3 or lower indicates that the company has had trouble to make a profit.

Profitability Rank is not directly related to the Financial Strength Rank. But if a company is consistently profitable, its financial strength will be stronger.

Traded in other countries:MT9.Germany,
Marten Transport Ltd was organized under Wisconsin law in 1970. The Company is a temperature-sensitive truckload carrier in the United States. It transports and distributes food and other consumer packaged goods that require a temperature-controlled or insulated environment. It provides regional truckload carrier services in the Southeast, West Coast, Midwest, South Central and Northeast regions. Its main medium-to-long-haul traffic lanes are between the Midwest and the West Coast, Southwest, Southeast, and the East Coast, as well as from California to the Pacific Northwest. Its segments include Truckload, Dedicated, Intermodal and Brokerage. The truckload segment transports food and other consumer packaged goods that require a temperature-controlled or insulated environment across the United States and into and out of Mexico and Canada. The dedicated segment provides customized transportation solutions tailored to meet individual customers' requirements, utilizing temperature-controlled trailers, dry vans and other specialized equipment within the United States. Its customer contracts range from three to five years and are subject to annual rate reviews. Its intermodal segment transports its customers' freight within the United States mainly utilizing its temperature-controlled trailers and also its dry containers on railroad flatcars for portions of trips, with the balance of the trips using its tractors or, to a lesser extent, contracted carriers. The brokerage segment arranges for smaller third-party carriers to transport freight for its customers in temperature-controlled trailers and dry vans within the United States and into and out of Mexico while it retains the billing, collection and customer management responsibilities. Its Brokerage segment also included the revenue of MW Logistics, LLC, or MWL, a third-party provider of logistics services to the transportation industry. Its customers include Wal-Mart and Armada. It competes with many other truckload carriers that provide temperature-sensitive service of varying sizes and, to a lesser extent, with less-than-truckload carriers, railroads, and other transportation companies.
